Save time and boost performance improvements with the latest updates of SAC (QRC1 2025)
At Swap Support, we keep a close eye on any developments in SAP tools. Over the past six months, SAP Analytics Cloud (SAC) has introduced several updates, with more on the horizon in Q1 2025. Here’s a breakdown of the latest features, their impact, and considerations for your situation.
The 5 most interesting new features of SAP Analytics Cloud (SAC)
Our experts dived into the latest updates and have selected the 5 most interesting features of SAP Analytics Cloud (SAC):
1. Seamless Planning: a step toward real-time integration
Seamless Planning aims to integrate SAC more closely with SAP Datasphere, the successor to SAP BW. Traditionally, the planning solution data was stored separately, like for SAP BPC and SAC. This approach meant it was necessary to load data from SAP BPC/SAC back into BW, causing delays in analysis and decision-making and duplicating data. Seamless Planning offers a shift: SAC data is stored directly in Datasphere, making it possible, for example, to do live plan vs actuals reporting and reduce data redundancy.
While we expect this feature to have a lot of potential, it’s essential to recognize it is in an early stage. The initial release gives you basic functionality, with more advanced capabilities planned in future updates. Therefore, it’s crucial to consider what the tool can currently achieve versus its long-term possibilities. We’ll delve deeper into these aspects in our webinar, offering a balanced view of the opportunities and limitations.
2. Data entry: the “onAfterDataEntryProcess” event
The “onAfterDataEntryProcess” brings familiar default logic functionality from SAP BPC (Business, Planning & Consolidation) to SAC. Previously, your users needed custom solutions to run calculations after data entry, which often added complexity. The “onAfterDataEntryProcess” simplifies this by allowing calculations to run only on changed data, improving efficiency and reducing unnecessary processing. In our view, this is a practical improvement that saves you and your users time and effort.
3. Data File Upload: Practical and Intuitive
Previously, uploading flat files in SAC was very difficult for end-users. The new Data File Upload feature makes importing flat files into SAC more straightforward. The process is user-friendly and designed to minimize errors, whether you upload sales data or forecasts. We expect this feature to increase the usability of SAC, for example, by ensuring planners can quickly enter data. We will demonstrate how easy it is to set up and use this feature in our webinar.
4. Standard unit conversion directly in SAC
SAC now includes a standard unit conversion table, a feature that has been available in SAP BW but was previously absent in SAC. This addition enables your users to handle unit conversions — like milliliters to liters or kilograms to tons — directly within the planning tool. It’s a small but impactful improvement for everyday use if you use units in your SAC model or plan to do so. We will show this in a demo during the webinar.
5. Compass: exploring Monte Carlo probability
Compass introduces Monte Carlo probability simulations to SAC, providing new possibilities for predictive analytics. While we’re still exploring its full capabilities, this feature has the potential to support advanced planning scenarios. Expect more updates from us as we test it further.
